Cops seize 61 modified motorcycles in 11-hour Sibu ops

SIBU: Police raided a street-racing hotspot along Jalan Kong Yit Khim-Sibu Jaya and seized 61 modified motorcycles during the 11-hour Ops Motorcycle, which began Saturday (Nov 1) night.

Sibu OCPD Asst Comm Zulkipli Suhaili said the operation, from 9pm Saturday until 8am Sunday (Nov 2), was aimed at curbing illegal street racing so that road users will abide by traffic laws and regulations.

"During the operation, a total of 92 motorcycles were inspected, with 61 impounded under Section 60 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for structural modifications and for further inspection.

"Over 120 individuals - 114 men and six women - were also inspected in the same operation, with 268 summonses issued for various traffic offences, including modified exhausts, not having a driving licence, vehicle modification and not having registration numbers," he said in a statement Sunday.

He said that such operations would be conducted continuously and would target motorcyclists to prevent and combat street-racing activities in the district. - Bernama
