IPOH: The Ipoh City Council plans to develop a comprehensive strategic plan for disaster planning and preparedness in collaboration with the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma).
The initiative aims to make Ipoh a more disaster-resilient, systematic and sustainable city, in line with the national Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) policy.
Ipoh mayor Zamakhshari Hanipah said the collaboration marked an important step in strengthening the city’s readiness against natural and human-induced disasters.
“MBI is honoured to receive the official visit from Nadma’s delegation.
“We hope more joint programmes and collaborations can be organised in the future, not only to improve disaster management but also to boost tourism and the local economy,” he said at a dinner held in honour of Nadma’s Disaster Planning and Preparedness Division at the Ipoh Convention Centre on Friday (Oct 31) night.
The Nadma delegation was led by deputy director-general Ahmad Rajiun Abu Bakar, who represented the agency’s director-general, along with senior officers.
The event also featured a networking session to foster closer cooperation between MBI and Nadma.
Zamakhshari said the partnership is expected to strengthen strategic coordination between the local authority and the national disaster agency to ensure Ipoh is well-prepared to face any future emergencies.
