MP ejected after heated clash over alcohol consumption, religion

CHAOS erupted in the Dewan Rakyat after a PAS and DAP MP traded insults and called each other “gila” (crazy) and “mabuk” (drunk), forcing the Deputy Speaker to eject one of them.

It began after Mohd Misbahul Munir Masduki (PN–Parit Buntar) recited a poem while debating Budget 2026, warning against alcohol consumption.

He said several religions such as Buddhism, Sikhism, Hinduism and Christianity, also discouraged it.

“If this happens, it will affect one’s health and lead to other problems such as drunkenness and accidents,” he said.

This drew the ire of Chong Zhemin (PH–Kampar), who cited the Standing Order against the Opposition MP for misleading the House.

“Not all religions prohibit alcohol. In Christianity, there is no complete ban on drinking,” Chong said.

Syahredzan Johan, who was requested to preside over the House, then advised the Parit Buntar MP not to make comments about other religions.

“Please limit your remarks to the Islamic perspective. Do not make statements about other faiths,” Syahredzan said.

Chong then called Mohd Misbahul “mabuk”, to which the latter shot back with the term “gila”.

Syahredzan then called for order, but the argument escalated with both MPs shouting at each other. Misbahul was then ordered to leave the chamber.
