My ‘party’ may already be in Perikatan, says Hamzah

KUALA NERUS: Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin continues to keep the people guessing about the status of the “new home” he is expected to announce, while hinting that the political platform in question may in fact be an existing party that is already within the Perikatan Nasional coalition, Sinar Harian reports.

The former Bersatu deputy president said confusion arose because he used the term “new home”, even though it does not necessarily refer to a newly established party, the Malay language daily reported.

“When we say a new home, does it mean a new party or an existing party? The answer is not necessarily a newly formed party.

“Yes… it could be an existing party. God willing, what is wrong with it (joining PAS)? For me, that home is my new home, but that home may already be there,” he told Sinar Harian after the Pidato Penyatuan Ummah programme held in conjunction with the 5th International Gathering of Ummah Unity and the 2026 Himpunan Alam Melayu at the Terengganu Sports Complex grounds here on Saturday (April 4).

Commenting on the party’s involvement in the opposition coalition, Hamzah raised further questions when he suggested that the political entity is indeed already a component of PN.

“Joining, or already in Perikatan Nasional? That’s why I said earlier we have to wait. It’s my new party, but that party may already be in PN,” he added.

At the same time, Hamzah hit back at claims by some quarters that his actions were inappropriate after leaving Bersatu.

He stressed that the parliamentary seat he holds is still based on a Perikatan mandate, and that he had the support of a majority of his fellow lawmakers.

“I am still with Perikatan Nasional. Even today, I contested under the letter of appointment issued by Perikatan Nasional.

“19 out of 25 (Bersatu) MPs are with me. So who is the one acting inappropriately? Perhaps the ‘minority’ should not be sitting there,” he said.

He also confirmed that besides the 19 MPs who have openly expressed support, several state assemblymen from across the country are also expected to follow his lead.

Asked about the party’s direction and struggle, Hamzah stressed that it goes beyond the political survival of any individual, instead focusing on Malay leadership that is fair and guided by religious principles as well as the Rukun Negara.

“What matters is that the struggle must continue. Today we are discussing the problems faced by the Malays. The Malays want to see this country continue to be led by Malay leaders who know how to deliver justice for all,” he explained.

Previously, Hamzah was reported to have been expelled from Bersatu with immediate effect via a expulsion notice dated Feb 13, 2026.

According to the notice, Bersatu’s disciplinary board made the decision after a meeting on Feb 12, 2026.

The notice said the expulsion was made under Clause 22.5 of the Bersatu Constitution following actions by Hamzah that allegedly breached Clause 9.1.4 of the party’s constitution.

Following that, speculation arose that he would lead Parti Keluarga Malaysia to continue his political struggle.

This was also confirmed by the party’s founder, Khairi Jaya, who said efforts to pave the way for the Opposition leader to lead the party were, as of now, almost certain.
