Parents of six-year-old slashed in neck arrested for child neglect

BATU PAHAT: The parents of the six-year-old boy who was slashed in the neck on Monday (Oct 27) have been arrested to assist in investigations.

Batu Pahat OCPD Asst Comm Shahrulanuar Mushaddat Abdullah Sani said the parents, both 41, were arrested at the Batu Pahat district police headquarters at about 4pm on Tuesday (Oct 28).

"Police have also opened a new investigation paper under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 for child neglect,” he said.

ACP Shahrulanuar added that the victim was in stable condition after undergoing surgery, but was still at Hospital Sultanah Nora Ismail for further treatment.

The police have yet to record the boy’s statement as they are waiting for him to make a full recovery.

The victim's mother had lodged a police report on Monday stating that her son, the youngest of three siblings, had been injured in the neck.

She said she made the gruesome discovery just after waking up at around 5.30am in their house in Parit Raja here. – Bernama
