Security guard gets jail, caning for unlawful possession of machete


KUALA LUMPUR: A security guard was sentenced to five years in prison and one stroke of the cane by the Sessions Court here Monday (Oct 27) for unlawful possession of a machete in front of the main entrance of a condominium.

Judge Mazuliana Abdul Rashid meted out the sentence after Ahmad Jazlan Muhammad Ariff, 32, pleaded guilty to the charge.

He was ordered to serve the prison sentence from the date of arrest, which was Sunday (Oct 26).

Ahmad Jazlan was charged with possessing a machete without a valid permit in front of the main entrance of a condominium at Jalan Tun Sambanthan here at 5.30am on Sunday.

The charge, under Section 6(1) of the  Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958, provides for imprisonment of between five and 10 years with caning upon conviction.

According to the facts of the case, the police received a report that the accused was carrying a machete and, following investigations, found that he had hidden it under a table in front of the entrance of the condominium. – Bernama
