JOHOR BARU: The number of cumulative dengue cases in Johor has declined sharply in epidemiological week 43 (Epi Week) this year.
State health and environment committee chairman Ling Tian Soon said there was a huge drop, with 5,074 cases compared with 11,822 recorded in the corresponding period in 2024.
“This represents a 57.1% drop, with 1,556 (30.7%) being non-locality cases and 3,518 or 69.3% being epidemic locality cases,’’ he said in a statement on Monday (Oct 27).
Ling said there was one death for Epi Week 43, statewide, with the cumulative death cases remaining at 10, this year against 17 cumulative deaths reported for Epi Week 43, in 2024.
He said Johor Baru district has the highest number of cases with 51 (64.6%), Kulai on the second spot (12 cases, 15.2%), followed by Batu Pahat with seven (8.9%).
Ling said Kluang, Tangkak and Kota Tinggi, have two cases each (2.5%) respectively, while Segamat, Muar and Pontian recorded one case each (1.3%).
“Mersing was the only district in Johor which did not have a single case for Epi Week 43, this year,’’ he added.
Ling said Johor Baru has seven dengue hotspots, namely Bandar, Jelutong, Plentong, Pulai, Sungai Tiram, Tebrau and Tanjung Kupang in Gelang Patah.
“The four hotspots in Kulai were Bukit Batu, Kulai, Sedenak and Senai,’’ he said.
Ling said there were 14 hot spots in Batu Pahat, namely Bagan, Chaah Baru, Kampung Bahru, Linau, Lubok, Minyak Beku, Peserai, Simpang Kanan, Simpang Kiri, Sri Gading, Sri Medan, Sungai Kluang, Sungai Punggor and Tanjung Sembrong.
