Hundreds protest Trump visit at US Embassy

KUALA LUMPUR: Around 700 people gathered outside the United States Embassy here on Friday (Oct 24) to protest the visit of President Donald Trump, police say.

Wangsa Maju OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Lazim Ismail said in a statement that the protest took place from 2pm to 4pm.

“A total of 18 officers and 470 rank-and-file personnel were deployed to maintain order. The protest was conducted peacefully, and no untoward incidents were reported,” he said.

Trump is scheduled to attend the 47th Asean Summit this weekend.

This will mark his maiden trip to Asia in his second term as president, and the first visit to Malaysia by a US president since Barack Obama’s visit a decade ago.
