SEPANG: There is sufficient manpower to man Immigration counters if the need arises for the 47th Asean Summit and Related Summits, says the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency.
AKPS director-general Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain said there are contingency plans in place for any system disruption.
"Our contingency plans remain the same, which is to open as many counters as possible.
"Any system downtime is beyond our control as it is managed by the Immigration Department and they will inform us of any hiccups.
"If that happens, we will do everything we can to mitigate the issue," he said at a press conference on Thursday (Oct 23) at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminal One here, adding all leave for AKPS personnel had been frozen until the summits conclude.
He also said AKPS' duties were straightforward as it only handles entries coming in via KLIA.
"The Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport (SZB) in Subang is not under our jurisdiction," he said.
Comm Mohd Shuhaily also said AKPS issued Not To Land (NTL) orders to 72 Indonesians at the Pasir Gudang port over the Deepavali holidays on Oct 19 and 20.
"It was found that they did not comply with the set conditions to enter the country.
"Our focus is not only at main entry points but also at smaller ones such as those," he said.
He added that the AKPS is also looking at the possibility of any "counter setting" racket being conducted at smaller entry points.
"I encourage any with information on such activities to write to us and we will try to verify it," he said.
