Proactive measures taken to ensure national security during Asean Summit, says IGP

KUALA LUMPUR: The police are taking proactive measures to ensure optimum security throughout the upcoming 47th Asean Summit.

Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail said this includes early intelligence gathering, continuous monitoring and the deployment of special teams at strategic locations.

The IGP said these efforts reflect the police's commitment to safeguarding national security and public order while protecting Malaysia’s image on the global stage.

"We urge members of the public to continue adhering to the law during the summit. They should act responsibly, maintain harmony, order and mutual respect so as to set a positive example for visiting delegates,” he said in a statement on Wednesday (Oct 22).

Mohd Khalid also reminded the public to refrain from spreading false information and engaging in acts that could be provocative or cause alarm.

"We will take necessary action in accordance with the law to maintain peace and security nationwide," he added.

Meanwhile, the public is advised to plan their journeys carefully during the summit, especially around areas affected by traffic control measures and road closures, such as the Kuala Lumpur city centre and Putrajaya.

"Road users are encouraged to use navigation applications, plan travel times in advance and fully cooperate with on-duty police officers.

"Stay alert and report any suspicious activities to the authorities immediately. The vigilance and awareness of citizens are vital pillars of national security,” said the IGP.
