Kota Belud MP demands transparency on federal revenue collection

Kota Belud MP Isnaraissah Munirah Majilis says Parliament must uphold its role in defending Sabah’s constitutional rights under the 40% revenue entitlement.

KOTA KINABALU: Kota Belud MP Isnaraissah Munirah Majilis questioned why the Federal Government cannot reveal how much revenue it collects from the state each year.

“I was hoping for more answers from the Prime Minister’s explanation this morning,” she said in a video posted on her Facebook page on Wednesday (Oct 22).

Munirah said the issue of the 40% revenue entitlement was in the Federal Constitution.

“It must be discussed openly,” she said.

Munirah also said that the 40% entitlement was not the same as the development projects announced from time to time.

On Oct 17, the Kota Kinabalu High Court ruled that the Federal Government had acted unlawfully by failing to honour Sabah’s 40% share of federal revenue. The court declared the 2022 special grant arrangement invalid and directed both governments to begin a review within 90 days and finalise a new formula within 180 days.
