Car crashes into oil palm tree killing two in Kota Tinggi

KOTA TINGGI: Two people, including a secondary school student, were killed after their car caught fire following an accident near an oil palm plantation at KM32 of the Tanjung Balau–Sedili road here.

Kota Tinggi OCPD Supt Yusof Othman said the police were alerted about the incident, which was believed to have happened at about 4.30am on Wednesday (Oct 22).

"The accident is believed to have occurred when the 21-year-old man driving the car lost control of the vehicle, causing it to skid and crash into an oil palm tree before catching fire.

"The driver and a 17-year-old woman, who was the front seat passenger, sustained severe injuries and burns to their entire bodies and died at the scene," he said in a statement.

He added that the victims' bodies have been sent to the Forensic Unit at Kota Tinggi Hospital and that the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

"We would like to advise the public to always be alert and comply with traffic laws and regulations to ensure road safety for all," he added.
