2,354 deepfake, 46,966 fake content taken down over three years since 2022, says Teo


KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has removed 2,354 deepfake items and 46,966 pieces of false content over a three-year period since Jan 1, 2022, the Dewan Rakyat was told on Wednesday (Oct 22).

Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching said that from Jan 1, 2022, to Oct 15 this year, the MCMC had submitted 3,074 applications to service providers to remove deepfake content, with 2,354 items, or 77%, successfully taken down.
