SIBU: A 16-year-old boy who performed a 'wheelie' on a public road was arrested during an Integrated Operation against street gangs on Saturday (Oct 18).
The local teenager was apprehended at about 10pm along Jalan Bujang Suntong.
Sibu OCPD Asst Comm Zulkifli Suhaili said the suspect was detained under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for dangerous riding.
"Such acts are not only unlawful but also pose a serious threat to public safety. We will not tolerate any behaviour that endangers others as we continue our efforts to eliminate street gang activities," he said in a statement.
The operation, conducted from 9pm to midnight, involved a senior officer and 28 personnel from the Sibu IPD Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department. It focused on the areas around Jalan Bujang Suntong and Jalan Awang Ramli Amit.
A total of 43 vehicles were inspected during the operation. Of these, 28 motorcycles were seized under Section 60 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for structural modifications and for further inspection.
In addition, 128 summonses were issued for various traffic offences, including modified exhaust systems, driving without a valid licence, missing registration numbers, and other related violations.
"Operations of this nature will continue from time to time to ensure that motorcyclists, in particular, do not engage in street gang activities," Zulkifli added.
He also reminded members of the public to ride and drive responsibly and to refrain from making vehicle modifications that cause noise disturbances or threaten public order.
