KOTA KINABALU: Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) has called on its members to remain focused and not be swayed by politically motivated allegations targeting the party’s leadership.
PBS Information Chief Datuk Joniston Bangkuai said grassroots leaders and members must stay united and committed as Sabah heads towards the Nov 29 state election.
He said recent bribery allegations implicating acting president Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam and deputy president Datuk Seri Dr Jahid Jahim appear to be used by certain quarters to create distractions as the election nears.
“Our acting president and deputy president have given their explanation on the matter, and I believe our leaders at all levels, as well as members and supporters, remain solidly behind the party.
"We consider this (alleged bribery) a politically motivated agenda aimed at weakening the party and we must not be distracted by it,” Bangkuai said at a meet-the-people session at Kampung Bambangan Lama in Kiulu on Monday (Oct 20).
The incumbent Kiulu assemblyman added that PBS remains guided by the values of accountability, honesty, and transparency in its political journey.
“While certain quarters may attempt to turn this issue into political ammunition, PBS will continue focusing on what matters most - serving the people and earning their trust,” he said.
Bangkuai said PBS takes public trust seriously, believing that confidence must be earned through actions, and the party remains committed to proving this through integrity, service, and accountability.
He also urged members and supporters to remain united, disciplined, and focused in the lead-up to the election, assuring them that PBS is committed to playing a key role in ensuring Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) earns the people’s mandate to continue leading Sabah.
PBS, he said, will continue to champion the people’s welfare and ensure that development and opportunities reach every part of Sabah under GRS administration.
“We believe the people will judge GRS based on its proven track record, not on the untruths being spread by the opposition,” said Bangkuai, who is also the GRS information chief.
“Facts and figures don’t lie… under GRS, Sabah recorded its highest-ever revenue and reserves, clear evidence of responsible management and sound leadership,” he said.
These are verifiable facts that stand on their own merit and can easily be verified with the relevant authorities and agencies, he stressed.
