KUALA LUMPUR: There are at least ten local parties in Sabah but none of them are united under a common cause for the people, says Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin.
The Sabah Barisan Nasional chairman urged voters not to be swayed by slogans such as "Sabah for Sabahans" or "local parties," saying this had become mere rhetoric rather than a genuine struggle for Sabah's rights.
"If they genuinely champion Sabah's rights, why are there so many local parties but not a single united front? The truth is simple – everyone wants power, not to serve," he said in a statement on Sunday (Oct 19).
Bung said the mushrooming of local parties reflected competition for influence and not a desire to unite and serve the people.
"This is not a people's struggle – it's a power struggle," he said.
He also criticised the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) administration, saying it was marred by controversy that raised questions of its integrity.
Bung said Barisan and Sabah Umno remained firm in their belief that the state does not need ten parties to fight for its rights and only needs one with an honest, stable and people-centred direction.
"Sabah has had enough political slogans. The people have had enough of empty promises and want leadership that is clean, courageous and committed to service," he added.
