KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has arrested a former statutory body employee for her alleged involvement in a syndicate that misappropriated some RM120,000 in zakat funds for 28 ineligible recipients.

According to a source, the woman in her 30s was arrested at 4.30pm on Saturday (Oct 18) when she turned up to give her statement at the Kuala Lumpur MACC office.

The suspect is believed to have solicited and received bribes of around RM2,500 in March.

A four-day remand order against the woman was issued by Magistrate Farah Nabihah Muhammad Dan following an application by the MACC on Sunday (Oct 19).

Meanwhile, Kuala Lumpur MACC Director Mohamad Zakkuan Talib, when contacted, confirmed the arrest and said the case was being investigated under Section 16(a)(A) of the MACC Act 2009. – Bernama
