Seremban court sets Nov 21 for next mention of fatal stabbing case

SEREMBAN: The Magistrate's Court here has fixed Nov 21 for next mention of a case involving a 31-year-old cook charged with the fatal stabbing of a 28-year-old man who allegedly had an affair with his wife.

Magistrate Nurul Saqinah Rosli made the decision after deputy public prosecutor Nik Nur 'Aqilah Syarfa Nik Zaidi told the court that the prosecution had yet to get the relevant reports related to the case.

Nik Nur 'Aqilah said the medical, postmortem, chemist's and deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) reports were not ready.

The accused Zulazren Zakariah was on Aug 19 charged with causing the death of Muhammad Amirul Rashid Mohd Niza by stabbing him in the chest at a house in Taman Seri Pagi at 6.50pm on Aug 11.

The father of two young children was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, which carries a death sentence or between 30 and 40 years' jail with at least 12 strokes of the cane, upon conviction.

Earlier, the lawyer for the accused Ahmad Lokman asked the court that his client be sent for psychiatric evaluation to establish the state of his mental health and if he was fit to stand trial.

He claimed that the accused had probably acted in such a manner as his wife of 10 years had allegedly cheated on him.

"Here we have a man without any criminal record and who has been doing two jobs to provide for his family.

"He probably acted in the spur of the moment when he learnt that his wife had been unfaithful," he said, adding that the accused had also tested negative for alcohol or drug abuse.

However, Nurul Saqinah said the matter came under the jurisdiction of the High Court and that the defence can submit the application when the case is transferred there.
