Melaka CM reminds state civil servants to uphold racial harmony, fairness in Deepavali message

MELAKA: Civil servants must uphold the values of fairness and integrity when serving the people in line with the Melaka government's zero-tolerance against any form of racism, says Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh.

The Melaka Chief Minister urged the state administration to reflect its long-standing spirit of harmony, where diversity is seen as a strength and not a barrier.

“My mission is to make Melaka an exemplary state for harmonious living and this effort shouldn't be derailed by anyone serving our civil service,” he said in a brief festive message after presenting Deepavali goodies to 44 recipients at Seri Negeri in Ayer Keroh on Friday (October 17).

Ab Rauf said he did not want to hear of any civil servant harbouring ill feelings or prejudice toward any community.

“Let us remember that we are one big family in Melaka and I will not tolerate racism in this state.

"I want all civil servants to bring happiness to the people and work closely with me in achieving a unified Melaka,” he added.

Meanwhile, Melaka youth, sports and non-governmental organisations committee chairman Datuk V.P Shanmugam said the Chief Minister would visit Little India in Jalan Bendahara on Friday night to greet Deepavali shoppers and convey festive greetings to traders along the stretch.

He said Ab Rauf would also purchase Deepavali attire for underprivileged children during his visit.

Shanmugam added that several cultural and musical performances would be held at Padang Nyiru here to enliven the Deepavali celebration, reflecting Melaka’s inclusive and multicultural identity.

“The Chief Minister’s presence during the Deepavali celebration symbolises the spirit of togetherness that defines Melaka.

"Festivals like this remind us that unity and respect are what keep our communities strong,” he said.
