Hiker died due to health issues, not fall, say Perak cops


IPOH: The man who was found dead while hiking at Gunung Liang in Tanjung Malim did not die from a fall, but due to health issues, say Perak police.

Deputy Police Chief Deputy Comm Mohammad Azlin Sadari said the victim was believed to have been hiking and walking slowly with a leg injury.

"The group started their hike from Fraser Hill, Pahang and descended in Muallim, Perak," he said in a press conference on Friday (Oct 17).

"The victim did not reach the base and was later found to have died.

“The victim’s body has yet to be brought down,” he added.

It was reported that the victim, Mustaqqeem Mansoor, 34, from Sungai Petani, Kedah, had gone missing while hiking Gunung Liang with 10 friends.

They began their hike from Fraser's Hill on Oct 10, with the victim last seen at the summit of Gunung Liang Barat at about 10.30pm on Oct 14.

He was found dead by search and rescue personnel at the summit of Gunung Liang Barat at about 3.30pm on Oct 16.

DCP Mohammad Azlin also said two mountain guides, in their 40s, that were with the group have been detained for entering a forest reserve area without a valid permit.

“When they began their climb from the Pahang side, they had the permit but they did not have one in Perak," he said.

“The arrests were made by the Perak Forestry Department under Section 47 of the National Forestry Act.
