Flood alert: Relief centre opens in Lunas

KULIM: A temporary relief centre has been opened at Kampung Belakang Taman Sang Kancil, Lunas near here, at 8.30pm Friday (Oct 17) to accommodate flood victims from surrounding areas.

Kulim Civil Defence officer Captain (PA) Amirul Aliff Ahmad said continuous rain, which began at 5pm, caused several areas in the district to be flooded.

"Initial reports indicate that flash floods occurred in Kampung Padang Tembak, Taman Seri Kulim, Kampung Seri Kulim, Kampung Taman Kancil, Lunas, and Kampung Padang Limau.

"However, water levels have started to recede, with some areas already recovered," he said in a statement Friday.

He added that the total number of evacuees has yet to be confirmed, as the evacuation and data collection process is still ongoing. - Bernama
