ISKANDAR PUTERI: Two Indonesian men have been detained by the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) for allegedly being involved in drug smuggling near Forest City here.
Acting Johor MMEA director Capt (Maritime) Kama Azri Kamil said the suspects, both in their 30s, were nabbed at around 4.30am on Tuesday (Oct 14).
“The operation team, which was divided into sea and land units, detected a suspicious boat in the waters before it fled the scene.
“Acting on this, the team managed to arrest two Indonesian men along the Forest City shoreline.
“Further checks on the duo led to the discovery of two transparent plastic packages containing 1,993g of drugs believed to be syabu worth an estimated RM66,000, and 499 plastic packages containing liquid believed to be ‘mushroom vape’ worth about RM99,000.
“The total value of the seizure is estimated at RM165,000,” he said in a statement on Thursday (Oct 16).
He said the suspects are being investigated under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and the Immigration Act 1959/63.
“MMEA will continue to intensify patrols and operations along the country’s maritime borders to combat smuggling and other maritime crimes,” he added.
