Facilitator arrested for allegedly molesting four boys at camp

BALIK PULAU: A 33-year-old facilitator has been arrested for allegedly molesting four 12-year-old boys during a motivational camp at Kampung Genting here.

Balik Pulau OCPD Asst Comm Sazalee Adam said the incident is believed to have occurred on Oct 12 during a motivational programme involving a school from Kerian, Perak.

“The suspect, who was an invited facilitator, is alleged to have molested the victims while they were asleep in the dormitory,” he said at a press conference at the Balik Pulau police headquarters on Thursday (Oct 16).

Preliminary investigations found that the incident took place around midnight while the pupils were resting in a male dormitory.

“The suspect is believed to have touched the victims’ bodies without their consent,” ACP Sazalee said.

He said the victims only disclosed what happened after returning home from the camp.

The school headmaster later lodged a police report at the Bagan Serai police station in Perak on Wednesday (Oct 16).

“Following the report, police arrested the suspect at his home in Sungai Petani around 9pm the same night,” he said.

The suspect, who is married with two children, has been remanded for seven days from Thursday until next Tuesday to assist in investigations under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.
