Stop sharing photos, videos connected to fatal student stabbing, says Selangor top cop

SHAH ALAM: Stop sharing photos and videos connected to the fatal stabbing incident at SMK Bandar Utama 4, says Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Shazeli Kahar.

He said the public should stop sharing the photos and videos, especially those of the suspect and victim.

"Because both of them are underage, their photos and videos must not be spread online.

"We are working with the relevant authorities, especially the Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), to stop the spread as well," he told reporters at the state police headquarters on Wednesday (Oct 15).

He also urged the public and media to allow the victim's family enough space.

"They are grieving and don't put more pressure on them," he said.

Comm Shazeli said there had been no previously reported criminal incidents at the school.

"We will also discuss with the state Education Department on effective ways to boost safety in schools.

"We want to come up with more efficient ways to increase safety in schools statewide," he added.

Comm Shazeli said the police have always cooperated closely with schools on various programmes and initiatives, including crime prevention campaigns.

"We have always been proactive," he added.
