58-year-old man arrested for allegedly assaulting niece in Tampin


TAMPIN: Police have detained a 58-year-old man for allegedly sexually assaulting his niece.

District OCPD Supt Amiruddien Sariman said the man was detained following a report lodged by a 15-year-old victim on Tuesday (Oct 14) night.

"The victim claimed she was asleep at home when the uncle attacked her," he said.

Supt Amiruddien said police have obtained an order to remand the accused for seven days till Oct 21.

The case is being probed under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.

Offenders can be jailed for up to 20 years and whipped upon conviction.
