Rescue ongoing for trapped driver after car plunged into Sungai Panchor


MUAR: A driver is believed to be trapped inside a car that had plunged into Sungai Panchor here following an accident.

Pagoh Fire and Rescue Department operation commander Nor Alfatah Omar said they received the distress call of the incident, which occurred at Sungai Panchor, Pekan Panchor, Pagoh, at about 2.42pm on Monday (Oct 13).

“A team of 14 firemen from the Pagoh and Muar fire stations dispatched to the scene, located about 5km away.

“Witnesses at the scene indicated that a person was trapped inside the vehicle when it plunged into the river,” he said in a statement.

At the time of writing, the victim’s identity has yet to be determined as search and rescue operations are still ongoing.

Meanwhile, Muar OCPD Asst Comm Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz said investigations into the incident are underway.

Earlier, videos showing firemen and police conducting search and rescue operations circulated on a Facebook page, claiming that a married couple had fallen into Sungai Panchor after having lunch at a nearby eatery.
