Organiser apologises for Israeli flag incident, ready to cooperate with probe

KOTA BARU: Pertubuhan Anak Muda Bangkit Malaysia, which organised a solidarity programme for Gaza on Friday (Oct 10), has apologised for the waving of the Israeli flag during a re-enactment of what happened to the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) volunteers.

Programme director Mohd Khairul Hafiz Hassan said that he was also ready to cooperate with the authorities in any investigation.

"I apologise if any party misunderstood the gimmick of the performance on the day of the incident.

"I am responsible for organising this," he said in a TikTok video on Sunday (Oct 12) night.

The post was viewed more than 123,000 times and received nearly 600 comments, according to Sinar Harian.

Previously, the daily reported that the waving of the Israeli flag during the 500 Pelayaran Solidariti Kelantan was described as just a gimmick during a re-enactment of the GSF volunteers' experience.

The programme, co-organised with the Sri Tanjung Floating Market Community, received criticism on social media when it featured a boat flying the flag of the Zionist regime.

According to Khairul Hafiz, it was just a simulation and was not intended to offend anyone.

He urged the public not to judge the organisers solely based on video clips shared on social media, adding that many of the commenters were not even present on Friday.

He said those who attended the event know what really took place.

Khairul Hafiz said the use of the flag was just to recreate the atmosphere of the GSF volunteers' experience during their aid mission to Palestine.
