Five injured in head-on collision on Senai-Desaru Expressway

KOTA TINGGI: Two men were killed on the spot and another two were critically injured after being involved in an accident near here.

The victims were travelling in a hatchback when their vehicle collided head-on with an SUV at KM56, Senai-Desaru on Saturday (Oct 11).

The Johor Fire and Rescue Department Operation Centre received an emergency call in regard to the incident at 11.10am and eight firemen were deployed to the scene.

"Our men arrived at the scene located 15km away from the Bandar Penawar Fire station at 11.39am," operation commander senior officer II Mohd Hazmi Zulkafli said in a statement.

He said the occupants of two cars involved in a head-on collision were rescued by passing motorists before the arrival of the operation team from the station.

Mohd Hazmi said a third vehicle was passing along the same stretch and crashed into the two burning vehicles when its driver was unable to avoid them.

"We used a water hose to put out the fire," said Mohd Hazmi, adding eight firemen from the Bandar Penawar Fire station were involved in the operation.

He said the Toyota Fortuner male driver was severely injured whilst the occupants of the Honda CRV, two adult males and two adult women, escaped unhurt.

Mohd Hazmi said the bodies of the two victims were sent to Kota Tinggi Hospital for autopsy whilst the two critically injured adult males of the Volkswagen car and the driver of the Toyota Fortuner are being treated at Sultan Ismail Hospital in Pandan, Johor Baru.
