UTAR researchers among world’s top 2% again

PETALING JAYA: Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) has once again made its mark on the global research stage, with 26 of its researchers named among the world’s top 2% scientists for 2025 by Stanford University.

This marks the sixth consecutive year the university has achieved this prestigious recognition.

According to reports, since 2020, the number of UTAR researchers recognised in the list has increased from three in 2020, incrementally rising annually to reach 26 this year.

The Stanford University’s World’s Top 2% Scientists list that is updated annually is a reputable ranking that highlights influential researchers across a broad range of scientific fields.

“This prestigious milestone, marked on the global research stage, comes in two categories, namely single-year impact and career-long impact,” said UTAR in a statement yesterday.

“Being in this rank highlights the university’s commitment to producing high-quality, impactful researchers that advances knowledge and benefits society alongside further strengthening UTAR’s standing as a leading global university.

“The list also serves as a powerful tool for identifying global scientific leaders who have made a significant impact in their respective fields.”

The 2025 list uses data up to Aug 1, covering research citations until the end of 2024, said the university.

UTAR president Prof Datuk Dr Ewe Hong Tat said that this recognition by Stanford University is an acknowledgement to the dedication and excellence of UTAR’s academics.

“Their inclusion in the list reflects UTAR’s growing research strength and our commitment to advancing impactful knowledge that benefits society,” he added.

“It also strengthens the university’s vision to be a global university of educational excellence with transformative societal impact,” he said.
