Sabah STAR faces leadership shift as five assemblymen resign

KOTA KINABALU: A total of five Sabah STAR assemblymen submitted their resignation letters following the party’s supreme council meeting on Thursday (Oct 9), says its president Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey Kitingan.

“So at the same time, their membership in this party is no more,” he said, adding that the respective deputies would take over the positions left vacant.

He said the party plans to launch its “Sabah-first” political movement, Team S4S, on Oct 18, with the participation of several more parties.

“Maybe three parties wish to join us, but we have to meet and talk first, see what their intentions and hearts desire,” said Kitingan on Friday (Oct 10).

He affirmed that they would contest in all 73 state seats and so far, have finalised around 35-40 candidates.

Earlier, he said the meeting centred around policies, manifestos, election machinery and other related topics as they prepared to head into the state election.

Sabah STAR and Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) pulled out of the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) coalition led by Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor about a day before dissolution was announced on Monday (Oct 6).

Four Sabah STAR leaders, Datuk Flovia Ng (Tulid), Datuk Ellron Alfred Angin (Sook), Datuk Abidin Madingkir (Paginatan) and Datuk Annuar Ayub Aman (Liawan) were present with GRS leaders during the announcement of the state assembly's dissolution

Datuk Robert Tawik (Bingkor), who was absent due to illness, had also confirmed his support for GRS ahead of the 17th State Election.
