KUALA LUMPUR: A butcher pleaded not guilty in the Selayang Magistrate's Court to a charge of causing his brother-in-law's death during a hunting trip in a forest reserve last month.
Muhamad Zaid Zakaria, 33, was accused of causing the death of Nor Azuar Juyob, 43, through a rash or negligent act at approximately 8pm on Sept 28 in the forested area of Taman Pinggiran Batu Caves, Selangor.
He was charged under Section 304A of the Penal Code, which provides for a maximum two-year imprisonment, a fine, or both, upon conviction.
Earlier in the proceedings on Friday (Oct 10), deputy public prosecutor Ahmad Iqbal Azman offered bail at RM15,000 with one surety and an additional condition requiring the accused to report to a nearby police station once a month pending disposal of the case.
However, the accused’s counsel, Sukhdev Singh, requested a lower bail amount on the basis that his client is the sole provider for his wife and four children.
Magistrate Sabreena Bakar @ Bahari granted the accused bail of RM6,000 with one surety, imposed the additional conditions requested by the prosecution, and set Dec 18 for case mention.
On Sept 30, it was reported that three men were charged after their friend was accidentally shot and killed during a hunting trip in Batu Caves.
The victim's body was allegedly transported and left by the roadside in Semanggol, Perak.
Perak police chief Comm Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin said investigations found the incident occurred when the victim was mistaken for game by the group around 8pm on Sept 28. – Bernama
