IPOH: A hunting trip in Batu Caves, Selangor, took a tragic turn when a 43-year-old man was accidentally shot and later abandoned by the roadside in Kampung Selamat, Semanggol, near Bagan Serai.
Perak police chief Comm Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin said the victim, who sustained three gunshot wounds on his back, was confirmed dead by a health officer from the Semanggol Health Clinic after police were alerted to the case around 3.55am on Monday.
He said investigations revealed that one of the suspects had mistakenly shot the victim, thinking he was an animal, while hunting with two others on the night of Sept 28.
“The group then transported the victim to Semanggol before leaving his body by an unpaved roadside in an attempt to cover up the actual circumstances of the incident.
“On Monday at about 12.30pm, police arrested two men aged 32 and 33 in Kampung Selamat to assist in the investigation.
“One of them is believed to be related to the victim. Later that night, at about 8.30pm, another suspect, aged 36, was arrested in Batu Caves with assistance from Gombak police,” he said in a statement yesterday.
A post-mortem will be conducted today at Taiping Hospital.
Comm Noor Hisam said the three suspects have been remanded for seven days until Oct 6 for investigations under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
He said police are still tracking down another suspect.
