Fostering spirit of unity among youths in Parliament

PETALING JAYA: The spirit of unity and care for youth was showcased in Parliament on Thursday (Oct 9) as Ayer Hitam MP Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong hosted a group of students and their teachers for an educational visit to the historic Dewan Rakyat.

The MCA president was seen personally meeting and greeting the students and teachers, in pictures shared on his Facebook page.

He also encouraged them to learn more about the democratic process and Malaysia’s parliamentary traditions.

This included the iconic Batik Day tradition of parliament every Thursday in which all MPs, senators, aides and parliament staff are encouraged to wear batik when at Parliament.

Dr Wee, seen dressed in a batik shirt himself said, “It’s Batik Day at Parliament today. Let us continue to promote Malaysia’s products, heritage and culture and may Malaysia’s identity be preserved forever.

“May this visit provide these students with valuable knowledge and experience — the future generation who will one day lead our nation.

“Wishing these young students every success in their future endeavours,” he wrote in his Facebook post alongside the pictures.
