26 UTAR researchers in World's Top 2% Scientists 2025 list by Stanford University


PETALING JAYA: Twenty-six researchers from Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) have been listed in the World’s Top 2% Scientists 2025 list by Stanford University.

Stanford University’s World’s Top 2% Scientists list, which is updated annually, is a reputable ranking that highlights influential researchers across a broad range of scientific fields.

“This prestigious milestone, marked on the global research stage, comes in two categories, namely single-year impact and career-long impact,” said UTAR in a statement on Thursday (Oct 9).

“Being in this rank highlights the university’s commitment to producing high-quality, impactful researchers who advance knowledge and benefit society alongside further strengthening UTAR’s standing as a leading global university,” UTAR added.

“The list also serves as a powerful tool for identifying global scientific leaders who have made a significant impact on their respective fields,” said UTAR.

Meanwhile, UTAR president Ir Prof Dato’ Dr Ewe Hong Tat said that this recognition by Stanford University is an acknowledgement to the dedication and excellence of UTAR’s academics.

“Their inclusion in the list reflects UTAR’s growing research strength and our commitment to advancing impactful knowledge that benefits society,” he added.

“It also strengthens the university’s vision to be a global university of educational excellence with transformative societal impact,” he said.

The 2025 list uses data up to Aug 1, covering research citations until the end of 2024.

Among the recognised scientists in the 2025 list under single-year impact (2024) are Ir Prof Ts Dr Bernard Saw Lip Huat from Lee Kong Chian Engineering and Science Faculty specialising in Energy, (Adjunct Professor) Prof Dr Mohammed J. K. Bashir from Engineering and Green Technology Faculty focusing on Environmental Sciences, Prof Dr Sumathi Sethupathi from Engineering and Green Technology Faculty focusing on Chemical Engineering.

Whereas some under the career-long impact list were Prof Dr Chye Mee Len from the Science Faculty, focusing on Plant Biology and Botany and Emeritus Prof Dr Boo Nem Yun @ Mooi Nam Ying from M. Kandiah Medicine and Health Sciences Facult,y concentrating on General and Internal Medicine.

UTAR congratulated all the academics for this global recognition, saying “Their inclusion in the list demonstrates the university’s growing research strength across different fields like engineering, business, medicine and information technology.
