Five Sabah STAR reps not changing stand on supporting GRS

KOTA KINABALU: Five Sabah STAR assemblymen have reaffirmed their stand to contest under the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) logo hours after Datuk Seri Jeffrey Kitingan gave them a week to reconsider their decision.

In a joint statement on Tuesday (Oct 7), the assemblyman said that they would use the GRS logo as a sign of loyalty to the people's mandate and for the stability of Sabah.

The five are Sabah STAR deputy presidents Datuk Ellron Angin (Sook) and Datuk Robert Tawik (Bingkor), vice president Datuk Abidin Madingkir (Paginatan), Datuk Annuar Ayub (Liawan) and Datuk Flovia Ng (Tulid).

The five said they remain committed to continue with GRS and fully support the leadership of Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.

"In our view, the state's political stability and continued development are priorities under the current Sabah government. As such, we hold on to the mandate and trust given to us by the people.

"We stand firm to remain with GRS and defend our seats under the GRS logo," read the statement.

However, the quintet did not indicate if they had left Sabah STAR.

Earlier on Tuesday, Kitingan said he would give the five assemblymen one week to return to the party and reconsider their position to stay with GRS.

He said they would be dropped as Sabah STAR candidates if they remained with GRS.
