Over 200 flood victims evacuated in Taiping


IPOH: About 210 people in Taiping have been displaced by flash flood following hours of downpour.

A Civil Defence Force spokesman said that those affected have been relocated to temporary shelters at Taman Kaya multipurpose hall, SK Simpang, SK Matang and SK Matang Gelugor.

The spokesman said the flash floods started at about 8.30pm on Friday (Oct 3).

"Among the areas affected included Taman Pengkalan Makmur, Taman Pengkalan Setia, Kampung Sentosa, Taman Mawar, Taman Indah, Kampung Jelapang Jaya, Taman Kota Jaya, Kampung Telok Kertang and Kampung Matang Gelugor," he said in a statement.

According to the Malaysian Meteorological Department, thunderstorms are expected to hit Hulu Perak, Kuala Kangsar, Kinta, Kampar, Batang Padang, Perak Tengah, Kerian and Larut, Matang and Selama in the evening on Saturday (Oct 4).
