KOTA TINGGI: Two paintings were reported missing from the Kota Tinggi Tourism Information Centre (TIC) at Jalan Omar in Taman Sri Lalang near here.

Kota Tinggi OCPD Supt Yusof Othman said police received a report on the missing art pieces worth RM1,000 from a 58-year-old trader at 5pm on Tuesday (Sept 30).

“One painting is the scenery of Kota Tinggi waterfalls while another one is a painting of a flower hanging on the centre’s display walls," he said in a statement Friday (Oct 3).

Supt Yusof said each painting measured 42cm by 60cm, adding that there was no closed-circuit television (CCTV) installed at the centre.

“The case is being investigated under Section 380 of the Penal Code," he said.

Section 380 of the Penal Code deals with theft committed in a building, tent, or vessel used as a human dwelling or for the custody of property.

Conviction under this section can result in imprisonment of up to 10 years, a fine, or both.

Those with information on the theft can contact investigating officer Sergeant Mohd Saiful Said at his mobile number 018-763 7969 or go to the nearest police station or call the Kota Tinggi Police District headquarters at 07-883 1222.

Information on the missing paintings was uploaded to the Facebook account of Penyulam Aksara, quoting TIC manager Nur Farhana Zakaria on the incident.

She reminded the public to be cautious when approached by any individuals wanting to sell the two pieces and to report the matter to the police.

Nur Farhana also called upon those with information of the case to contact Kota Vista Management at 017-761 5481.
