Police hunt motorcyclist who hit schoolgirl outside SK Permatang Pauh


BUKIT MERTAJAM: Police are tracking down a motorcyclist who allegedly hit a schoolgirl while she was crossing the road in front of Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Permatang Pauh here, after a video of the incident went viral on social media.

Seberang Perai Tengah (SPT) OCPD Asst Comm Helmi Aris confirmed a report had been lodged, with initial investigations showing the accident occurred on Sept 30.

"Police detected a 42-second CCTV recording uploaded on Facebook, showing the incident in front of SK Permatang Pauh.

"It happened after school hours and involved an eight-year-old girl who was crossing the road with a friend before being struck by a motorcycle," he said in a statement on Thursday (Oct 2).

The victim suffered minor injuries to her left ankle and has received treatment.

Helmi said efforts are ongoing to trace the motorcyclist and urged witnesses with information to contact the SPT District Police Headquarters Traffic Division or investigating officer Sergeant Ahmad Azrol Md Rejab at 019-5429571.

He further reminded motorists to exercise extra caution in school zones and to obey traffic regulations to ensure road safety. – Bernama
