Man arrested for slashing incident in Tawau


KOTA KINABALU: Police arrested a 30-year-old man on Wednesday night (Oct 1) in connection with a slashing incident in the Tawau district.

Tawau OCPD Asst Comm Jasmin Hussin said the man was nabbed in front of a hospital where the victim was being hospitalised.

He said in the incident that happened on Monday (Sept 29), a 40-year-old contractor sustained serious injuries after being slashed at Kampung Autentik, Tanjung Batu Laut.

ACP Jasmin said the victim was allegedly assaulted behind his in-laws’ house at around 1.10pm and was later transported to Tawau Hospital for emergency treatment.

He said the suspect has previous convictions related to house burglaries, sexual offences, and drug-related crimes.

“He is being investigated for voluntarily causing hurt with a weapon,” he said in a statement on Thursday (Oct 2).

It was learnt that the attack might have originated from a misunderstanding.
