Sabah and Sarawak ready for smooth rollout of Budi95

KUCHING: It’s all systems go for the smooth rollout of the Budi Madani RON95 (Budi95) initiative in Sarawak, says state Domestic Trade and Cost of Living director Matthew Dominic Barin.

All the necessary preparations, including the setting up of customer service counters at all its branches across the state to handle queries on the initiative, have been done, he said.

“People can come to our branches if they have any questions.

“Our officers are ready,” he told reporters after attending a briefing on the Subsidised Petrol Control System (SKPS) here yesterday.

Advising those in rural areas to head to the nearest branch for information about the initiative, he said the ministry has nine branches in Sarawak, including its headquarters here.

Matthew said SKPS would also be implemented starting today for eligible public and goods transport vehicles.

“We have opened applications for SKPS since Sept 15,” he said, urging transport companies to register for the targeted RON95 subsidy.

Under SKPS, 21 types of public and goods transport vehicles are eligible for the petrol subsidy.

Transport companies which have registered for SKPS must apply for fleet cards from their chosen oil companies to enjoy the subsidy.

Meanwhile, in Sandakan, petrol stations said they are all geared up for the full rollout of Budi95, when MyKad verification becomes mandatory for all motorists at the pump.

Mohd Sharil Nizam, who works at a petrol station in Mile 6, said operations had gone on without a hitch since the subsidy began on Sept 28 for Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) recipients.

“There were no long queues. Everything went well. STR recipients just need to insert their MyKad into the designated verification terminal and make payment using their debit or credit cards.

“For those paying with cash, they can proceed to the counter. The system will automatically detect whether they have a valid driving licence.

“Petrol stations are now focused on ensuring the verification system runs smoothly once the requirement applies to all motorists,” he said when met yesterday.
