UM sexual harassment probe against professor at final stage

PETALING JAYA: Universiti Malaya (UM) says its internal investigation into allegations of sexual harassment involving a professor has reached the final stage.

In a statement on Thursday (Sept 25), the university said the investigation committee was preparing a report that would be submitted to the next stage for further action.

“This investigation committee was established by the UM Disciplinary Committee in accordance with the investigation procedures required under the Statutory Bodies (Discipline and Surcharge) Act 2000.

“UM will not tolerate perpetrators of harassment and will act in accordance with the law, while ensuring fairness to all parties, especially the complainant and the accused,” the statement read.

Earlier on Sept 25, UM Feminism Club (UMFC) called on the university to publicly share updates on the internal probe into the professor, who has been accused of sending obscene photos of himself to students in Dec 2024.
