Hundreds attend townhall on Anti-Bullying Bill in Penang


GEORGE TOWN: Some 300 participants attended a town-hall session on the drafting of the Anti-Bullying Bill (RUU) on Friday (Sept 26).

Organised by the Legal Affairs Division (BHEUU) at SJKC Aik Hua in Sungai Ara here, the session aimed to discuss integrated initiatives to combat bullying issues nationwide.

Participants from ministries and government agencies, teachers, parents, community representatives, non-governmental organisations, and the private sector from Perak and Penang took part.

Among those present during the town-hall session were Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reform), Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said, BHEUU director-general Zamri Misman, Penang deputy state secretary Muhamad Ghopran Yeop Hamzah and state education director Mohamad Dziauddin Mat Saad.

Deputy Director, Student Affairs Management Sector, School Management Division, Hirudin Mohit, Chief Children Commissioner Dr Farah Nini Dusuki and BHEUU deputy director-general Thiyagu Ganesan also delivered their presentations on strategy, challenges and law reformation to address bullying.

The session also included a question-and-answer session for participants to ask and give their input on the matter.
