JOHOR BARU: Police have arrested two men and a woman during several raids that also seized some RM3.4mil in drugs, including methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA).
Johor police chief Comm Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad said the suspects, aged between 23 and 29, were nabbed during the raids carried out between 10.35pm on Saturday (Sept 20) and 2.30am on Sunday.
“In the first raid at a hotel in Taman Sentosa, police arrested a man and a woman believed to be his girlfriend. Officers seized three bottles containing liquid suspected to be ecstasy, amounting to 1.5 litres,” he told a press conference on Thursday (Sept 25).
He added that police later arrested a third suspect along Jalan Sutera 3, also in Taman Sentosa, where two vape cartridges containing liquid ecstasy (4ml) and three packets of powdered ecstasy (119.5g) were confiscated.
Following the arrests, police launched a third raid at a house in Taman Delima 2, which was used by the syndicate to store drugs.
“Checks inside the house led to the discovery of 64 packets of ecstasy weighing 4.24kg, 112.2 litres of liquid ecstasy, 19.7kg of MDMA, and 74 vape cartridges containing liquid ecstasy.
“Police also found 600 ecstasy pills weighing 252g, 15g of ketamine powder, as well as various equipment used in drug processing,” he said.
Comm Ab Rahaman said the total haul was valued at RM3.4mil, enough to supply more than 460,000 addicts.
“The boyfriend-and-girlfriend duo were responsible for trafficking the drugs, while the other suspect acted as the storekeeper.
“They are believed to be part of a syndicate that has been active since July, using social media and nightclubs in the city to distribute the drugs,” he said.
He added that all three suspects have been remanded until Saturday (Sept 27) to assist in investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the death penalty or life imprisonment upon conviction.
“All three tested negative for drugs, and only one of them has a criminal record. Besides the drugs, police also seized a car and a gold chain from the suspects,” he said.
