SETTLERS in Felda Bukit Goh in Pahang were left puzzled when signboards for bauxite extraction and oil palm tree replanting were erected in the area, Kosmo! reported.
It is understood that these signboards have been in place for some time despite reports that new licences for bauxite extraction remain frozen.
Pahang Felda Cooperative and Entrepreneur Committee chairman Datuk Amizar Abu Adam confirmed that several proposals for redevelopment are being considered while bauxite mining licences are still frozen.
He said any proposed project in the area needs to be brought to the state government and Felda for approval, advising settlers not to be hoodwinked.
A settler, known only as Abu, said he received an offer from a company representative, including advance payments, to carry out oil palm replanting and bauxite mining at his plots.
Another settler said a presentation was held by the company on March 12, adding that he was unsure if state approval had been given for the proposed projects as no state officials were present.
