DESPITE having mobility issues, an 84-year-old grandmother in Pontian, Johor, remained calm when her four-year-old grandson choked on a piece of candy and saved his life, China Press reported.
Wu Tian Fa, a traditional Chinese medicine practitioner, shared the harrowing incident on Facebook recently. He left his son in the care of the grandmother while he and the wife went out.
The grandmother recalled seeing the boy jumping up and down seemingly in distress after eating a piece of candy.
“My mother tried to calm him down but he was acting more and more frantic. His face gradually showed signs of pain and discomfort, and she immediately realised something was wrong,” Wu said.
Fortunately, the grandmother had learned first aid as well as traditional Chinese medicine. She immediately placed her grandson face down across her thigh while striking his back with her palm.
The candy dislodged from the boy’s throat shortly afterwards.
The boy was said to have immediately relaxed and collapsed into his grandmother’s arms.

The tortoise was seen struggling to get away while no staff member at the zoo intervened during the entire episode.
After the footage made its round online, Internet users condemned the woman’s behaviour as a form of animal abuse.
