KOTA KINABALU: Kota Belud district students preparing to further their tertiary education had their burdens slightly eased with some monetary assistance received from their assemblyman Datuk Ewon Benedick.

The Kadamaian assemblyman presented RM500 for each eligible recipient going for their bachelor’s degree and RM300 for those taking up diplomas.

A total of RM67,400 was given to 160 students in Kadamaian, during a handing over ceremony at the Kadamaian ADUN service office compound on Monday (Sept 22).

"I hope all recipients will be able to start their studies with an ease of mind with this contribution and complete their education with flying colours, and in turn make their parents and families proud," said Benedick.

He also urged that these students return to contribute to the development of the state and country upon graduation.

During the event, Denver Alan Sauntin, who will be studying Automotive Technology Engineering at Universiti Kuala Lumpur – Malaysia France Institute, expressed his gratitude for this assistance.

"Thank you, Datuk Ewon because this money can help ease my financial burdens to start my degree education a little," he said.

Nelly Lolla Abidin of Kg Gaur who will be taking up the same course in the same institution said the funds could help purchase some items as she prepares to enter a new phase in her education.

A parent, Jarme Timbangan from Kg Tamu Darat said no money is too little and no assistance is too small.

"This helps us as parents because sometimes, we need to fork out a lot for the registration and other necessities as our children go for their tertiary education away from home," he said.

"This assistance is very meaningful for us and families needing them. We hope such initiatives will continue," he said.
