Jobless man charged with murdering his father in Cheras


KUALA LUMPUR: An unemployed man was charged in the Magistrate’s Court here Friday (Sept 19) with the murder of his father last week.

Iznan Syahir Mohammad Tasnim, 25, nodded in understanding after the charge was read out to him before Magistrate M.S Arunjothy. 

No plea was recorded, as murder cases fall under the jurisdiction of the High Court.

The man is accused of murdering Mohammad Tasnim Nurdin, 62, at an apartment unit in Bandar Seri Permaisuri, Cheras, here, at 3.01am on Sept 13.

The charge, framed under Section 302 of the Penal Code, carries the death penalty or imprisonment of not less than 30 years and up to 40 years, and not less than 12 strokes of the cane, if convicted.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Nadia Eleena Jamaluddin Akbal appeared for the prosecution, while the accused was unrepresented.

The court then fixed Dec 11 for the next mention of the case.

On Sept 13, the media reported that police had arrested a man for allegedly stabbing his father to death, believed to be due to his dissatisfaction over family property issues. - Bernama
