KUALA LUMPUR: A former supermarket cashier has claimed trial at the Sessions Court here to multiple counts of criminal breach of trust (CBT) and money laundering for allegedly transferring Touch 'n Go e-wallet reloads amounting to RM568,200 to herself, her family and friends.
Nur Atiqah Asyirah Muhamad Fauzi was charged with two counts of CBT by transferring Touch 'n Go e-wallet reload personal identification numbers (PIN) worth RM98,800 belonging to a supermarket to her own e-wallet.
She allegedly committed the offence at an outlet here between Jan 1, 2023 and July 9, 2024.
The accused was charged under Section 408 of the Penal Code, which carries a punishment of between one to 14 years, whipping and a fine, if convicted.
Nur Atiqah was also accused of 12 counts of money laundering for transferring a sum of RM469,400 in the form of Touch 'n Go e-wallet reloads belonging to the company to herself, her family and friends.
The charges were framed under Section 4(1)(b) Anti Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds from Unlawful Activity Act 2001 which is punishable under subsection 4(1) of the same Act.
She faces a maximum of 15 years imprisonment and a fine of not less than five times of the alleged offence or RM5mil, whichever is higher, if convicted.
Deputy Public Prosecutor M. Saravanan told the court that the accused was charged with a non-bailable offence but proposed bail at RM50,000 for the CBT offences and RM50,000 for each of the money laundering charges, if the court wishes to exercise its discretion in allowing bail.
Lawyer Ainul Azwan @ Ainul Azirahman Ainul Jamal, who represented Nur Atiqah, sought a lower bail amount on grounds that his client was a kindergarten teacher with a RM1,000 monthly income.
He said Nur Atiqah had to support her family, including her school-going siblings and her father who suffered from chronic diabetes.
Sessions Court judge Azrul Darus fixed bail at RM100,000 in one surety. He also ordered Nur Atiqah to report her attendance to the police station once a month and to surrender her passport to the court.
The court fixed Nov 8 for case management.
