Aquatic activities on six Mersing islands paused for conservation works

MERSING: All scuba diving, snorkelling and island hopping activities around Pulau Harimau, Pulau Gual, Pulau Mensirip, Pulau Mertang Timur, Pulau Mertang Barat, and Pulau Mertang Tengah have been suspended.

Mersing district officer Jamil Hasni Abdullah said the closure was to allow for marine biodiversity and environmental conservation work on the islands.

"All resorts, chalets, tour boats, island hopping operators and scuba diving centres are requested to cease all scuba diving, snorkelling and island tours in the affected areas with immediate effect.

"Additionally, authorities will conduct periodic monitoring and strict action will be taken if any party is found to violate the directive," he said in a statement on Thursday (Sept 18).

Jamil Hasni requested that all parties comply with the notice in an effort to ensure the sustainability of natural resources. – Bernama
