Storm damages 18 houses, mosque in Pantai Remis, Manjung

IPOH: A total of 18 houses and a mosque were affected by a storm and strong winds in the Pantai Remis area of Manjung on Wednesday (Sept 17).

The Manjung District Civil Defence Force (APM) said it received information on the incident at 8.56am via WhatsApp from the District Disaster Management Committee (JPBD) group.

"The incident occurred at about 12.30am following continuous heavy rain and strong winds. APM personnel were deployed to the scene at 12.20pm and arrived at Al-Aliah Mosque at 1.15pm.

"Checks found that several roofs involving the mosque and residents’ houses, including in Taman Nelayan 2, Jalan Pengkalan Baru and Kampung Cina, were damaged and leaking,” it said in a statement on Wednesday night.

APM also said most of the houses were currently undergoing repairs to prevent further damage, given the overcast weather conditions.

"Immediate maintenance and repair works need to be carried out due to the weather, and APM Manjung will continue to provide updates from time to time,” the statement added.- Bernama
